Homework 6: MIDTERM
(October 23rd, 2006)
For the next three weeks, you will be working on a midterm game created in Flash. This will count for 20-25% of your
final grade. You will present your progress to the class each week for critique. You will also have class time to work on
your games. Make the most of this time, and prepare technical questions specific to your project for me!
Show Your Core Mechanic +
[ due next week ]
- Using your game design document as a guide, start creating your game in Flash. When building your game,
start with the core mechanic first, rather than the graphics, sound, narrative or level design. Use
placeholder graphics. Come to class next week prepared to show where you are at in the completion of
the game. At the very minimum, you should have the core mechanic finished to a point where it is challenging to
play. In other words, the moment to moment interaction of the game should be functional, as well as the existence
of game elements crucial to its gameplay. Be prepared to present the following:
- How your game has changed from your document (if at all).
- What technical challenges you faced.
- How you solved them.
- Show the state of your game.
- Self critique. What is good about your mechanic. What needs improvement.
- What you are going to accomplish for the final game.
- Let the class play it...
- We will be trying out your core mechanic next week in class.
